Words are not adequate when it comes to saying what so many individuals and organizations have lost with the passing of Major General Bill Gossell. His extraordinary contributions to the many organizations, (i.e. Veterans, Marine Corps, Navy League, Toys for Tots, etc.) are immeasurable and could only have been possible by the tremendous support of his wife, Marge. Channel 4 Mike Doocy perhaps said it best that he has never met a more impressive and giving community leader in the North Texas area. We are saddened by this loss but know we are all better individuals by having known Bill Gossell. Marge, we look forward to hugging you as soon as possible and taking you to lunch during the next few days.

Our path in life is guided by our beloved God. I met Bill briefly on 2017 while cutting palm prongs next door at Oxnard on Sept2017. He was a bit unstable and was going to pull the trash bin out for him but had to put the groceries in the house. By the time I went out, Bill was rolling slowly my full heavy green bin with a cane down the driveway. Absolutely so much kindness in his heart that even though he was unstable and me being a stranger, he still pulled my trash bin out first. This is when I met Marge when she checked on him carrying a portable oxygen apparatus. It’s a blessing and forever grateful for this gift from God when I was welcomed to their TX home. It didn’t take long to make an impact in my heart for the beautiful souls of his family. It isn’t fair for wanting to visit them again: hearing more of his stories, his kindness, generosity, hear him humming songs, telling jokes, laughter, strength, determination, sharing his knowledge, etc…but will always treasure this gift given to me to know him and his family.

Dear Mrs. Gossell: it was my distinct honor to have known and worked with the General. He would say “call me Bill.” I first encountered him years ago working on a Toys for Tots campaign. He gave selflessly and truly measured up to good leadership by making sure the troops in the field had what they needed to get the job done. He gave an inspirational address at the USMC Birthday event in my courtroom. We worked several projects together and my admiration for him is without limit. He was simply a great human being and a role model for me, I shall miss him greatly. Semper Fi Marine, job well done. Comfort and peace to Gossell family. God is great. Amen.

He was a wonderful Uncle to us and we so enjoyed seeing and staying with him and Aunt Marge in 2016 when we last visited the US. Stories of him abound, such as landing a helicopter in a hotel car park coming to his nephew’s wedding! He was generous to a fault and ran the Toys for Tots drives for the Marines for many years. And this, after all his military service to the USA. Affectionately known as ‘The General’, he will be missed greatly. RIP Uncle Bill, Sincere sympathy to Aunt Marge & Love from your Australian family!! xxoo
