Obituary of Carter, Mildred (Mili)

Mildred (Mili) Carter of Dallas, Texas passed away peacefully in her home on June 11, 2020 at the age of 93.  She was surrounded by her family when she passed. Mili was born in Winnsboro, South Carolina to Nellie Stroud and Arthur Braswell.  She grew up in Winnsboro South Carolina and graduated from William and Mary University in Virginia.  She moved to Dallas over 25 years ago and while in Dallas, she worked for Wade College for over 20 years at a job she loved.  Working with students kept her young at heart. Mili always lived life to the fullest and loved her family and friends.  When she entered heaven on June 11th, she was reunited with her loving son Joe who we know met her with open arms.  In her 93 years she raised 6 children by herself, she was strong willed, very opinionated, direct, and had a great sense of humor.  She had the opportunity to travel; worked in a profession she loved and live on her own to the very end of her life. Her favorite quote was “It is was it is”! She was preceded in death by her parents and her son Joseph Lee Labrosse. She is survived by her children, Jan Barnett and husband Jimmy, Eddie Flores, and wife Diena, Kim Meyers and husband Larry, Mike Flores, and wife Michele and Donya Byard.  Also 5 granddaughters, Jana Hardwick and husband Curtis, Shelly Bosh and husband Ken, and Lauren Fraley, Julia Flores, Victoria Flores, 6 grandsons, Brain Barnett and wife Shannon, Michael Flores, John Flores, Chris Rotan and wife Diana, John Rotan, and Joseph Byard.  She also had 21 great-grandchildren & 4 great-great grandchildren. Services will be held Friday June 26th, at 2:00 pm in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234. I knew from the moment I met Mili , we would become close friends. She was a lady of spunk and determination, and I most loved those qualities of hers. We shared many laughs and stories over a glass of wine…or two! Mili could out shot any other woman on this earth. On one Christmas shopping spree I finally had to find a chair and sit down to rest while she carried on, and she never slowed down once. We enjoyed going to church on Sundays and lunch afterwards. To spend time with Mili was never a dull moment! I will certainly miss those special times we shared. But I will cherish close to my heart the times we did share. ❤️ On a final note I will miss hearing on her end of the phone line, “Hi Shuuga” (sugar).

I met Miss Mili through Nicole and Georgia Pellegrino. It is at the time I became a constant in Georgia’s life that Mili inherited me. We spent many weekends together in diverse locales. I never met all her family but they became familiar through the stories she shared. I learned of husbands loved and lost and diseases diagnosed and cured. She shared the heartbreak of losing Joe as well as triumphs and set backs endured by others in the family. Mili always chose to celebrate life’s high points rather than dwell on its disappointments. Her resiliency has never ceased to inspire my life. My condolences to all her beloved family.

  7. Jacque Phillips says:

We all have friends, many or few, good or unpleasant, those that come and go. Then we have friends that somewhere in time a special bond grows and you become more like family. Ms.Mili made me laugh, made me cry, some days made me crazy and others made be cuss. But she never allowed me to feel alone and helpless in the most difficult days. She was quick to give advice and opinions, even when you didn’t ask. Lol. Her words were as a double edged sword, sometimes cutting, others healing. That was my Ms. Mili. Just trying to keep us flying right.
She was the bravest and strongest person I’ve ever known. When life gave her lemons, she made lemonade. “It is what it is” she would say. And “if you can’t change it, live with it” but don’t complain about it because ain’t nobody gonna listen. She was truly a living example of the words overcomer, determination, fearless stubborn and friend. She believed that you can do anything if you put your mind to it.
I love you my friend and you are dearly missed.
I will hold you in my heart until we meet again.
To the family, Know that you we’re loved and my sincere sympathies are with you.
