Obituary of Riley, Kevin Scott

Kevin Scott Riley was born October 2, 1948 in Keokuk Iowa to the late Harley and June (Bode) Riley. He went to school in Keokuk Iowa until his family moved to Clinton Iowa the summer of 1965. Kevin graduated from Clinton High School in 1967. He graduated from The University of Iowa in 1971. He continued to finish a master’s degree from The Texas Christian University in Fort Worth Texas. On August 30, 1969, Kevin married Patsy J Oesterborg at the United Church of Christ in Clinton, Iowa. They lived in Iowa City for two years and then began their 20-year journey in the United States Air Force; retiring from the Air Force at Dyess Air Force Base in June 1991. He then worked as Assistant Registrar at McMurry University for four years before going to a dispatch school in Arlington Texas. Kevin then worked for Bombardier’s Flex Jet division where he loved scheduling flights based on his weather predictions and many other parts. Kevin was active in various churches, especially while his sons were growing up. He loved being a soccer coach for their teams, and he loved family vacations always full of plenty of joking. Kevin loved being a Grandfather to his five grandchildren. The last several years, Kevin has enjoyed activities at the Carrollton Texas Senior Center. Especially the last two years while he was active on the advisory council. Kevin loved the chair volleyball practice and tournaments. For many years, Kevin and Pat were active at The Colony Home Fellowship at Monte and Judy’s home. There are not enough words to express how precious these senior times have been. Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Patsy and children; Ken & wife Maria Riley of McKinney TX; Brian & wife Lauren Riley of Waxahachie TX; five grandchildren; Tori, Emily, Ashley, Lena, & Henry; brother Rick & wife Beanie Riley of Camanche Iowa.  Kevin was also close to Patsy’s family. Visitation will be on Sunday, August 30, 2020 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234. Graveside service will be on Tuesday, September 1, 2020 at 10:15 am at the Dallas Fort Worth National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211, line up in Lane 1. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

Kevin was my big brother when I spent a lovely exchange student year with his parents June and Harley Riley in Clinton Iowa. He and the wife Pat were already based in Sacramento where we travelled to spend the Christmas. I admired the blue electric lights in the Christmas tree since in 1971 we still had live candles in our tree in Finland. Kevin also gave us a sightseeing tour in the rainy San Francisco.
Just five years ago my husband and I took a memory lane tour to Iowa where our guide again was Kevin. We paid a visit to the Keokuk cemetary where Kevin’s parents, my dear American parents June and Harley are burried. Kevin and Pat also served us a lovely dinner across the river in Keokuk. So many good memories…
I know how much you Kevin were loved by your parents who were so proud of you. You were a man with a big heart. So glad we got to meet you and follow your life.
Condolences to Kevin’s family. We miss him, too.
    With love
