Obituary of
Jones, Patsy Ruth Stevens
Our beloved Patsy Ruth Stevens Jones, age 83, of Plano, Texas peacefully passed into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 6, 2020 at her home, surrounded by love.
She was born in Dallas, Texas on April 4, 1937 to Joe Ellis Stevens and Leoma Stevens. In her early childhood, Patsy was raised by her “Granny” Stevens, uncles and aunts, while her father served in WWII. She grew up being a proud “Daddy’s girl” as her father was the first father in Dallas County to be awarded full custody of his daughter in 1939 by Judge Sarah T. Hughes. In 1946 she gained who she considered to be her real mother when her father married Sammie Slagle Stevens to make a loving family of three forever. After graduating from Sunset High School in 1955, she held various interesting jobs including school secretary and secretary at Temco Aircraft before marrying Jerrel B. Jones on November 28, 1958. As Patsy and Jerrel began their own family with three children, she continued to work various part-time jobs with being a full time wife and mother as her first priority.
Patsy enjoyed a vast array of interests and hobbies. She enjoyed amateur radio, cooking, playing bridge, planning and hosting parties, membership in Daughters of the American Revolution, Order of the Eastern Star, church league bowling, and various other service organizations. She was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church. Throughout her life, these things remained a constant: Patsy loved to have fun, host big parties, laugh big, serve plenty of good food, and welcome all her neighbors and their children into her home. She especially enjoyed her family and friends and was never above a good prank on either side! She dressed up, put on her red lipstick and jewelry, and could shop anywhere, anytime, and longer than anyone! She could and almost always made anything fun with an easy, warm, and loving spirit.
She will be forever missed by her husband Jerrel, sons Steven (Marylinda) of Anna, Texas, Scott (Polly) of Tooele, Utah, and daughter Carolyn Spurgin (Newt) of McKinney, Texas; her grandsons, Colton Spurgin (Vantanee) and Grant Spurgin; her granddaughters, Elisa Thompson (Jeremy), Robin Maher (Josh), Jordan Jefferson (LaVontae), Betsy Hawkins (Garrett), Kristen Davis (Mitchell); her great grandchildren, Quentin, Gabriel, Dylan, Tatum, Finley, Ari, Zuri, and Theo; as well as numerous other dear family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Sammie Stevens, her sister Jo Ellen Hughes, and her beloved eldest grandson, Joey Jones (Kristen).
A celebration of Patsy’s life will be held on Monday, September 14 at 2:00 PM in the chapel at
Prestonwood Baptist Church - North Campus

My condolences to the family. I knew Patsy for only a brief time as a member of the same chapter of DAR in Allen. I was blessed to receive a hand written note back from her back in April when the shutdown was into it”s full first month. I’m glad I wrote her and blessed that she responded. Glad that I was able to make it to her beautiful Celebration of life this afternoon. So glad she’s up in God’s loving arms. Many prayers and comfort for Jerrel.

Patsy and Jerrel have attended my Sunday Worship Services and Thursday Bible Study while living at Solstice Retirement Center. Patsy was a sweetheart, always staying after to talk, show me family pictures and joke with me. My favorite moment with Patsy was the last time I saw her Saturday when we visited and prayed together. When I was leaving she said “Please give me a hug!” Best hug I ever had; cannot wait to see you again Patsy in Heaven.

We have known Patsy and Jerrel about 50 years, first through amateur radio and then Eastern Star. We remember traveling togerther and how much fun and laughter Patsy brought. We remember the wonderful parties she hosted at her home and what a perfect hostess she was. We will always have wonderful memories of Patsy.

I regret Patsy and I never made our lunch date the past few weeks, but God had different plans for her. I think back over the years when Patsy, Shirley Moore, Alma Carpenter and I traveled together, so many times, to meetings in Texas, as well as other states. We would laugh so hard that most of the time I had to pull over on the side of the road and wipe the tears from my eyes before I could continue driving. Patsy usually had that fake, red boa around her neck or her red vest on with all of her fraternal pins stuck on it. I remember one of the many times that Patsy, Alma Carpenter and I attended a meeting down in Dallas, probably around 1994. We had to travel down Shiloh Road to Ferguson Road and on our way, we would pass this business and wonder what it was. Several months passed and on the way home one night, we finally decided we would stop and go in, and see what they had for sale. Alma was tired and decided to wait in the car. Well, Patsy and I walked in…dropped our jars on the floor…turned around and at a fast pace, walked back to the car and sped away, so fearful someone might have seen us there. So, if you ever go down Shiloh road, past NW highway and look up and suddenly see a sign that reads “New Fine Arts”, just keep going. They DO NOT sell paintings! Patsy, I miss your laughter and your love for life. Praying God gives His strength to Jerrel, his family, and Kathy Creel, I know you all miss her.

Patsy was my sister from other parents…she always said we were “Marine” sisters as both of our Dads were Marines. One of my favorite memories is when we went on a cruise and we competed in a game against other cruisers. We had to run across the basketball court with a basketball between our legs. As Patsy’s legs weren’t long enough to hold the ball, the cruise director had to hold the ball between Patsy’s legs when she tried to run. Wish I’d had my movie camera. It was hilarious! There wasn’t a time when we didn’t have fun and enjoy each other. I miss my “sister” but know she’s now seeing her family that is in heaven. I love and miss you Patsy Jones! My heart is broken…
