He then attended Southern Methodist University on a tennis scholarship, majored in business, and played tennis competitively for three years until he enlisted to serve in the United States Army. He was assigned to the army hospital in Stuttgart, Germany and upon his honorable discharge returned to Dallas and began his career in the fire and casualty insurance industry, where he met his life partner and wife, Mary Ann Zapalac. As a devoted father, he enjoyed coaching and referring soccer games, and camping and fishing through the Boy Scouts of America. Jack was a member of the Carrollton Church of Christ. He also served as a board member of the Texas Surplus Lines Association, and was an active member of the Texas Marina Association, and NAPSLO. In the year 2000, Jack sold his business, retired, and with Mary Ann, traveled in the United States and Europe.

Although I was far away in California, we enjoyed phone conversations and emails when he was able. I already miss knowing that I have the best cousin ever to talk to in Texas.
