Obituary of Nichols, Fern Loretta (Wanrow)

In memory of Fern Loretta (Wanrow)Nichols of Farmers Branch. Fern Nichols, devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and faithful servant of Our Lord, Jesus Christ, entered into the presence of our Heavenly Father on Monday, September 14, 2020. She was born, 4th of 5 children to Earnest and Alice Wanrow on June 25, 1927 at home, on the farm near Humboldt, NE. She is preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Wayne Wanrow, sister, Thelma Turner and her husband, Gerald “Sonny” Nichols. She is survived by her sisters; Marian Ary and Carol Koerner. She is also survived by her sons, John Murray, Jim Murray (Ginger) and daughter, Mary Ann Cureton (fiancé, Corbin Scroggins); Grandchildren, Janie Murray, Amy Murray, Jim Murray (Stacie), April Stafford, Avery Murray (Jeanette), Ryan Tafelski (Heather), Jaclynn VanWinkle (Jeremy), Jessica Hilliard (Micah); Great-grandchildren, Connor, Cole, Aila, Aralynn, Oliver, Willa and Diana. And numerous other family and friends. Fern grew up on a farm in Nebraska. She graduated from Pawnee City High School in May of 1944 and obtained her Nebraska Teaching Certificate in August of that same year. She taught all grades in a one room schoolhouse in rural Nebraska for three years. She married Eugene Murray in 1946 and from this marriage had her three children. After their divorce in 1959, Fern and her children moved to Texas. Fern worked in the electronics industry, holding supervisory roles for Texas Instruments, Harris Corp., General Instruments and Motorola. She retired from the corporate world while in her 70’s. Fern was a 40+ year member at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church and a proud member of the Keenager’s, the Silver Caper’s, the Catholic Daughter’s and the Prayer Shawl Ministry. She loved to garden, she loved her cats through the years (Simon, Booger & Tiger) and she adored her Texas Rangers baseball. Even though she loved to travel and had been to many countries all over the world, her favorite place was her home. She had a huge tree in her front yard that she decorated for each holiday season. She also decorated for all holidays inside her home. Her wish would be for others to be kind to one another, follow Christ’s teachings and be devoted to your family and friends. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to the Catholic Daughter’s at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church, Farmers Branch, TX. There will be a Memorial Service on Tuesday, October 20, 2020 at 11:00 am in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234. I wish times were different right now and that my family could be present for the service. My deepest sympathies. My great aunt Fern was such an amazing woman. We always enjoyed our visits with her and grandma. She was such a light in our lives and will be dearly missed. God bless

Fern was a prayer warrior. She used her talent for knitting and crochet to make prayer shawls. I have one of hers that she gave me after a tough year of loosing family members. She made sure I got one of her shawls that she had made. She was strong and we will miss her!
