Obituary of Johnson, Freddie

Freddie Johnson of Grand Prairie, Texas passed away on Tuesday, November 3, 2020 at the age of 86. Freddie Johnson was born on June 3,1934 in New Orleans, Louisiana on a bright and sunny Sunday morning. His dad, Richard Johnson, told him that because he was born on Sunday, he would always be Blessed and indeed, the prophecy was fulfilled. Sarah Johnson, his mother, loved and deeply cherished her baby son. The home, although impoverished, was filled with spiritual teachings that prepared Freddie for a multiplicity of challenges and experiences and through it all, he became  a warrior and inspirational figure for many, especially young people who often acknowledged their appreciation for his wise counsel and wisdom. He had the “gift” of the octopus for analyzing situations which led to productive and positive outcomes. On 11/3/20, Freddie succumbed to death while at home. What a dark chapter in my life this chilling event created for me. Freddie’s parents, Richard Johnson and Sarah Sigue Johnson and siblings: Kedrick Johnson and Caldwell Johnson, preceded him in death. He received spiritual teachings, as a member of Crossroads Church. He was a valued employee of American Airlines in the fleet service clerk position in Los Angeles, California. Other jobs that he held along the way included: Cement mixer, busboy, box factory worker and newspaper boy in the French Quarters. He was an outdoorsman and when I met him at 64 years of age, he was riding his bicycle 25 miles each day throughout the city of Los Angeles. Freddie had a genuine zest for living! Freddie served in the US Navy during The Korean war from 1951-1955 with an Honorable Discharge. Although his military experience left him with many health maladies: 5 cancers, sleep apnea, PTSD, hypertension, diabetes, and on and on and on. In spite of his pain and suffering, he would proudly say,” If I had to, I would do it again.” Freddie served America, a country he dearly loved, with dignity, integrity and a whole lot of pride. We all say to you- “Thank you for your service!”.  He was rewarded with medals of distinction for his valiant efforts: National Defense Service, Korean Service, United Nations Service, China Service, Good Conduct. On June 8, 1960, he married Ora Miles. From this union two daughters were born- Veronica and Pamela. They were both a source of pride for him and his love for them was unconditional and untiring. Freddie’s favorite pastime was travel. He visited many countries of the world which included: China, Japan, Spain, France, St. Thomas, Aruba, England, Greece, Italy. He embraced and enjoyed his life, with thanks to God, with a bountiful amount of gusto! In the summer of 1998, Freddie met the love of his life, Lue Dean Terry, at a musical Concert sponsored by Rev.O.C. Smith. On January 6, 2005 we were united in holy matrimony and our lives were forever filled with an abundance of love, joy and happiness. We did everything together. Freddie frequently tagged along for my appointments, even to the beauty shop! Freddie dearly loved me, and I reciprocated in kind. He enjoyed telling/hearing the story of how we met, and this event was revisited over and over again. In 2006, my sweet and devoted husband purchased a vacation home in order for me to be renewed and refreshed so that I could better provide care for my mother, brother and him. This weekly hiatus each month was truly a life saver for me. In 2014, following the deaths of mother and brother, we sold our home in Los Angeles and made the home in Grand Prairie our permanent residence. Frequently, Freddie communicated to others – “Moving to Grand Prairie was the best decision I ever made!”. Oh, how I love my husband. He will always be my rock and strength, now and throughout eternity. I offer up this memory of my very special husband: When God was making my husband as far as I can see, he made a special soulmate especially for me. He made a perfect gentleman, compassionate and kind, with more love and affection than you could ever wish to find. He gave my darling HUSBAND a heart of gold. He gave me wonderful memories only my heart can hold. He was someone I could talk to that no one can replace. He was someone I could laugh with till tears ran down  my face. Next time we meet will be at heaven’s door. When I see you standing there, I won’t cry any more. I will put my arms around you and kiss your smiling face. Then the pieces of my broken heart will fall back in place. Missing you so much Papa. You are the Best thing that ever happened to me! The Southgate II Community will fondly remember Freddie as Pops, Popshie, Papa and Mr. Johnson. His cheerful attitude and winning smiles were contagious and will be sorely missed. Freddie was a “king” and resilient fighter. I am confident that his songs of the pain and beauty in the world will fill so many people with the incredible joy he felt for life. In spite of the huge number of medical conditions he encountered on his journey, he would whisper to me,” I want to live so that I can take care of my wife”. Long live the beauty that he shared that came down through and unto all of us. This is the mighty legacy he left behind. Freddie leaves to cherish his memories:  Lue Dean Terry-Johnson (wife), daughters, Veronica Taylor (Horace Taylor),Pamela Johnson and a host of family friends and “adopted” family members. Visitation will be on Monday, November 16, 2020 from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm in the Brooks Family Chapel of the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234. Funeral services will be on Tuesday, November 17, 2020 at 10:00 am also at the North Dallas Funeral Home. Freddie will be laid to rest following the funeral service at 1:00 pm at the DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211. Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.

You called him Freddie. In the family we called him “Shooky’. Our mothers were cousins and lived down the street from each other in New Orleans. But the family was originally from Southwest Louisiana living in towns like Charemtom, Jeanerette, Lake Charles,Morgan City, Baldwin, and Freetown. Freddie’s mom Sarah Sigur had some pretty sisters and some of those Sigur women could stop traffic with their beauty. Freddie wanted a family reunion to visit those towns I mentioned. His mom’s sisters were great cooks. Freddie wanted to get gumbo and seafood dishes that we grew up on. He was curious to know much about the family where until recently had a few members who spoke English with such powerful french accents that you almost needed an interpreter to help you understand what was being said.Fteddie yearned to see that family. I believe he is
having a reunion with them now. We shall miss him. I asked Lu Dean to whisper in his ear that we love him.

Well friend I get to publicly say farewell, see ya on the other side. Bo voyage on to another journey you go. It was not just a random occurrence you came into my life and we became friends, it was God appointed as it was for every life God put in your path. I remember the Very first time that smooth black Cadillac rolled up in front of my house and you hollered, “What ya doing boy” and that conversation that friendship began, it wasn’t long after you brought your lovely wife and well then we became family. Sharing stories, working on every project you could throw my way and then opening your door to me during a struggle I had. Oh how that made the transition and saved my marriage. You canny wisdom and thoughtfulness. It was just a week or so ago, you finally got those boots you had been wanting. We spent time talking about the right conditioner and wax to make them soft and comfortable. I think about the ironic stories that make me laugh, when you drove through your house, I could not believe you did that, well the lasers are only good if you watch the marker. You were a crazy , funny, smart and delightful friend, we were buddies you and I, sorry I had to move to the other side of the Dallas globe, missed some of these last years with you. I won’t forget you falling asleep and my dog Alaska Kissing you, big brave man afraid of my dog. Yeah I am laughing. My memories of you will be cherished. I remember the day we snuck away and you wanted to buy a motorcycle and I had to drive you all around and let you sit on them and take pictures and constantly say that’s not the one for you, until I finally wore you out, well that kept us both out of trouble, because Moms would have been so mad if I let you buy one and I would have been disowned. I am writing this as if you are still here friend because in spirit I know you are. We were there for moms the night of your passing and we continue to pray day and night for her comfort. We are all glad you know longer have to hide your pain and you have went to your rest, just consider yourself one of the lucky ones, lived along and wonderful life and you get to rest now. The Epistle of John tells us to have fellowship with God and others and we definitely fellowshipped ol boy. I will miss you our time shared and your random calls Freddie, until we rejoin on the other side rest well sailor, rest well Freddie Johnson, rest well my friend, thanks for the memories Pops

Freddie was my friend, mentor, second dad and neighbor. He is no longer here in the flesh, but I know he is with us. He always said, what’s gonna be, gonna be. Soft spoken but I always knew when he meant business and he gave me alot of wisdom. He was a humble man and a giver. He was the kind of neighbor that loved and was concerned about everyone. There are some who bring a light so great to the world ,that even after they are gone, the light remains. Freddie’s light will always be with me. I have comfort in knowing that someone so special will be never forgotten. Thank you Lord and Luedean for blessing me with the opportunity to know Freddie. I will always keep him in my heart. Rest in peace my friend, until we meet again.
