Carlton Meredith, Jr. went to be with the Lord on the morning of November 18, 2020, at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas.
Born in Dallas, Texas, on July 14, 1923 to Edna Ruth (McLaughlin) and Carlton Meredith, Sr., he graduated in 1940 from Highland Park High School where he was the Managing Editor of “The Bagpipe”, a Captain in R.O.T.C. and a member of the National Honor Society. He went on to the University of Texas where he completed a five-year petroleum engineering degree in three years. During World War II he served our nation as a sergeant at Fort Bliss. Following military service he worked in the oil fields of West Texas before returning to Dallas to join his father as a property tax consultant. Carlton worked in this capacity for over 50 years before retiring in 2005. During his years as a tax consultant, he helped craft legislation for property tax relief and was instrumental in the founding of several state property tax organizations.
He was a devoted husband and father, preceded in death by Martha Ann Fowler Meredith, his wife of 53 years, and by a second wife of three years, Lydia Elizabeth Andrews Meredith as well as by his sisters, Nancy and Barbara.
He is survived by his children: Carlton Meredith III, Keener Meredith, Martha Hope Meredith Miller, and Jesse Flynn Meredith; by his six grandchildren: Nikkholai Miller, Amber Page, Ian Miller, Haley Meredith, Abigail Meredith, and Henry Meredith; and by his great granddaughter, Lily Rose Page.
In his mid-thirties, after a period of thoughtful reflection, Carlton made a conscious decision to give his heart to Christ. He loved his Lord and Savior, and was blessed to see all of his children follow in his footsteps by professing their own faith in Christ. He lived a long and full life, filled with family and friends. He was loved and appreciated by those who cared for him in his last years. By God’s grace Carlton blessed us for a long time and continues to be salt to our lives.
The funeral ceremony will be held at 10:00 a.m. on December 11, 2020, at the DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas.
