Obituary of
Haltiner, Norman Thomas
Norman Thomas Haltiner passed away on December 1, 2020 with his wife by his side. Norman was born on February 21, 1946, to Axel and Nellie Grace Haltiner in Deadwood, South Dakota. He was the seventh of eight sons.
Norman was predeceased by his parents, brothers Howard Mason (Janet) of Deadwood, South Dakota, and Glenn and Melvin Merritt of Lead, South Dakota. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Priscilla, sons Chris Haltiner (Kelly), Seattle, Washington, Todd Haltiner (Kevin Lee) Bremerton, Washington, and Tim Haltiner, Portland, Oregon, stepchildren Cindy Whitesides (Mark), Austin, Texas, and Benjamin Braly (Saedra Pinkerton), Dallas, Texas, his brothers Herbert Haltiner (Sally), Roy Haltiner (Sylvia) and Donald Haltiner, all of South Dakota.
Norm loved his beautiful grandchildren; Chase, Noah and Harper Haltiner, Nolan and Lilly Braly, and Madison, Sean and Dillon Whitesides.
Norm’s extended family, survived by him, includes in-laws Patty and Jerry Jones, Denver, Colorado, and Pam and Terry Wilson, St. Louis Park, Minnesota.
Norm had an extensive career in oil & gas, banking and real estate. He was a gifted and creative woodworker and craftsman. He fashioned his creative gifts into a late-career hobby making toys and specialty products for children and adults with sensory or spectrum disorder issues. His grandchildren would often remark that if anything was broken they should “give it to Grandpa, because he can fix anything.”
Norm was active in the Arapaho United Methodist Church and treasured his time with the Methodist Men’s Group. He led many work projects with the church where he brought his substantial construction gifts to bear on efforts to help those who needed more assistance.
Norm was a man of great integrity, generosity, selflessness and compassion. His love for his family was boundless. We are all better because of Norm and he will be greatly missed.
Please leave the family condolences and share memories on this website.
