Obituary of Jones, Billy Jack

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Billy Jones, a treasured member of our family and a dear friend to all who knew him. God took Billy home March 7, 2021, after spending almost a month in the hospital battling Covid-related pneumonia and other complications. Although he fought through many other serious health issues the last few years, he never lost his enthusiasm or passion for life. He had a heart and a personality as big as Texas, where he was born and raised. Billy was known to greet everyone with a smile, a kiss and a compliment. A natural showman, Billy never met a stranger and could carry on a conversation with anyone about anything. There wasn’t a subject he couldn’t  -- or wouldn’t -- discuss on demand. He was a genuine “prime rib on Christmas” kind of guy. Billy enjoyed making people feel important and he took great pride in creating a home that gave his loved ones a sense of belonging. He often labored over special meals and he was known to spend days on end meticulously grooming and decorating his yard throughout the year for all to enjoy. Billy was a homeowner association’s dream – and he had the “winning” signs to prove it. He also loved to play bingo, hang out at the casino every now and then, and watch car races. He liked excitement. The only time he enjoyed being on the sidelines was when he was watching his kids or his nephews and nieces play ball. And even then he was an active spectator, cheering them on and congratulating them on their efforts. Billy will be dearly missed and always remembered as a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, son and friend. He leaves behind a legacy of love and faith, and we take comfort in knowing that he is now rejoicing in his Heavenly home. He is survived by his loving wife, Teresa Jones; his children Billy Jones Jr., Brandy McClain (Johnny), Coby Jones; grandchildren Peyton (Haley) Elrod, Tyler Elrod, Preston Jones, Morgan Morrow, Jace Talbott and Kaylie Talbott; great-grandchildren Austin Jones, Wyatt Elrod, Hudson Elrod, Liam Elrod, Tuff Elrod, Joel Victory, Mackenzie Morrow, and Kash Talbott; sister Betty Ditto (Vaughn); and dozens of adoring nieces and nephews. Billy was predeceased by his parents Isac Jones and Mary Frances Hughes; brother Bobby (Pat) Jones; nephew Bobby Jones Jr. and niece Lisa Jones. His viewing will be held Monday, March 15 from 5-7 p.m. at North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Dallas, TX 75234. His funeral service will be held Tuesday, March 16 at 2 p.m. at the same location. Please leave condolences and share memories on this website.

I remember spending weekends at your house with Aunt Coby and Morgan. We used to stay at nana and papas quite often. You took me in as your own granddaughter even though I wasn’t blood. Just like all your other grandkids, you even gave me a nickname. Your going to be missed so much. I just wish I could have seen you one last time! Love you so much Papa!

The biggest memory I have is when he would do that thing where he talked so fast you couldn’t understand what he was saying, but boy you better understand. The lawn though makes me smile remembering him outside working on it all the time and yelling at us to get our bikes off of it. I truly don’t have memories of creekside that don’t include Big BJ and the family. I thank him for being a role model, friend and someone that will always be part of the family and my love goes out to Teresa and everyone I grew up with.
