Obituary of Sparkman, Jerry Dean

Jerry Dean Sparkman, beloved father, papaw and brother, joined his sweetheart in heaven on Tuesday, April 6th, 2021.  He was born on February 4th, 1939 in Freer, TX to Cecil Perkins Sparkman and Odell Deloris Freer. Jerry grew up in Alice, TX, the eldest of 3 boys and graduated from William Adams High School in 1957. He was a proud member of the Coyote Football Team. In 6th grade, while attending Royal Ambassadors, he accepted Christ as his Savior. He attended Tarleton State University in 1959 and later transferred to the University of North Texas, where he would meet his future wife. In 1961, he was drafted into the military, and served in the United States Army until 1967. He married Gail Parker in Cleburne, Texas on August 25th, 1962. The couple settled in Farmers Branch, Texas in 1965 when Jerry began his career of 21 years with General Electric. Son, Scott was born December 28th, 1967. Daughter, Susan was born July 10th, 1972. After the arrival of son, Kyle on August 24th, 1977 the family moved to Carrollton, Texas where Jerry lived the rest of his years. Jerry and Gail became members of First Baptist Church Carrollton in 1981. They enjoyed being a part of their Sunday School class where they made lifelong friends. In 1985, Jerry bought and operated Midway Cleaners in Dallas, TX. He later owned and operated Basil’s Dry Cleaners in Carrollton, TX before retiring in 2008. He was a very hard working man with an excellent work ethic. He always had a smile on his face and always put others first. His favorite place on earth was the family ranch in the Texas Hill Country. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and spending time with family. Jerry was the very devoted ‘Papaw’ of 2 grandsons, Kolbe and Brady.  He was very active in their lives, attending most school and athletic events and teaching them to hunt and fish. Jerry is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Gail, his parents and his sister in law, Jayne Sparkman. He is survived by his 2 sons, Scott and Kyle Sparkman of Carrollton; daughter, Susan Sparkman Morgan and husband Shane of Lewisville: grandsons, Kolbe and Brady Morgan; Brothers Dennis Sparkman of Roundrock and Larry (Barbara) Sparkman of Spring Branch; sister in law, Lousue Williams of Fort Worth and nieces Cathy Williams and Karen Nava; many cousins and friends. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 17th at 11:00 am at First Baptist Church at the Fields, 1401 Carrollton Pkwy, Carrollton, TX 75010.
