July 28, 1928 - December 6, 2021

Lovelle Marie Wratislaw of Dallas, Texas passed away peacefully at the age of 93 on Monday, December 6, 2021, from complications associated with Alzheimer’s disease.

Lovelle Marie Selzer was born on July 28, 1928, to Leslie and L.Q. Selzer in Waterloo, Iowa. She was a graduate of Waterloo West High School and attended Lindenwood College, in St. Charles Missouri and the University of Iowa in Iowa City, Iowa. Active in Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, she received the Order of the Rose for 50 years of membership and was instrumental in setting up the chapter at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, Iowa.

She met Merle Wratislaw in junior high school. They were married June 26, 1949 in Waterloo, Iowa, and celebrated 72 years of marriage in June.

Lovelle was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She is survived by her beloved husband, Merle Wratislaw; her two sons, Fred Wratislaw and his wife Faye, and David Wratislaw Sr. and his wife Mary; grandchildren, Kimberly Pondrom and her husband Michael, Lee Wratislaw, David Wratislaw Jr.; and great grandchildren, Courtney Pondrom and Jacob Pondrom.

Lovelle enjoyed cooking, shopping, and travel.  Most of all she enjoyed boating on the lakes and rivers of Iowa, Minnesota, and Wisconsin with her family. She was an expert power boat operator and taught her sons and grandchildren to water ski while operating the tow boat.  She was an accomplished pianist and taught piano in Waterloo, Iowa.  She also participated in Waterloo theatre plays. She was a radio personality at station KAYX and interviewed big band leaders who were touring the Midwest.

Lovelle was the music of the family, and the music lives on in her children and grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held Monday, December 20, 2021, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, 9800 Preston Road, Dallas, Texas 75230.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Lovelle’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association.
