Obituary of
Avila, Anita Martinez
Anita Martinez Avila passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on January 1st. For over thirty years she was the “shampoo and set” aficionada as owner of Anita’s Beauty Salon. Anita’s tamales, empanadas, and flour tortillas were legendary. Perhaps, this was her inspiration, at the age when most people consider retirement, for she and her husband to embark into the restaurant world and open Avila’s Mexican Restaurant. While her various talents endeared her to many, her family was lucky to have her as their cheerleader, teacher, confidant and advisor. She had the good fortune in meeting the love of her life, Octavio, who was as equally charming and charismatic as she. Married for almost 60 years they were a perfect match. Whether it was on the dance floor, in the kitchen, or running a household, Anita and Octavio were always working towards their common goal of raising and nurturing their family. Those who are celebrating her place in heaven include her children and their spouses, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren: Anna Maria and John Martinez, Octavio and Paula Avila, Patricia and Martin Guajardo, Ricardo Avila, Keith and Amy Marrs, Katie Avila, John Andrew Martinez, Andrea and Malcolm Molloy, Gabrielle Martinez and Fergus Rooney, Kate and Jake Guajardo, Liam, Eoin and Ann Molloy, Lucia and Sophia Rooney, Natalie and Trent Marrs, Zoe Wells, and sister Maria Martinez. Anita was born in Dallas, Texas and was the oldest daughter of Luis and Concepcion Martinez. She was a longtime member of the Sociedad Guadalupana. A funeral mass will be held at 2pm on Saturday January 4th at The Cathedral Shrine of the Virgin of Guadalupe at 2215 Ross Avenue, Dallas, TX 75201.
