Obituary of Swirczynski, Isabelle M.

Isabelle Swirczynski In the early morning hours of Sunday, March 16, 2014, Isabelle Swirczynski joined her Heavenly Father in a place she’s been planning since childhood.  She was born on February 6, 1917 in Muenster, Texas to a large, loving Catholic family.  She is survived by sisters Florentine Pappas of Jacksonville, Florida and Ethel Metzler & husband Bill of Lindsey, Texas; daughters Vivian Burns & husband Bob of Naples, Florida, Alice Fly & husband Lyn of Plano, Texas, Coletta Moore & husband Jim of Haslet, Texas; daughter-in-law Cynthia Swirczynski of Tacoma, Washington & numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren & great-great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband Arnold Swirczynski; parents Mayme & Frank Trubenbach; brothers Harry, Frank & Alfred Trubenbach; sisters Alice Hellman, Veronica Neu & Hildegard Swirczynski; son Samuel Swirczynski & grandson Michael Swirczynski.  Isabelle (who in her later years preferred to be called Isabella when she discovered that to be her baptismal name) was a headstrong lady with a joyful spirit & a love for “the good old days” & “the ways things used to be”.  She was very dedicated to her Catholic faith & a long-standing member of Holy Angels parish in San Angelo, Texas, where she resided for 50+ years.  At the insistence of her children, she moved into an assisted living facility in the DFW Metroplex & enjoyed her last years being close to the folks that meant the most to her.  At Holy Angels Church, she participated in the quilting group & the Fifties Plus group where she enjoyed playing cards & dominoes.  She was an accomplished seamstress & avid reader, loved to crochet, took pride in her yard & maintained a home with a door that was always open to family & friends.  Isabelle was a staunch Cowboys & Texas Rangers fan, loved country music & kept up with current affairs.  The family sincerely thanks her caregivers at Villagio of Carrollton.  Special thanks to the Eucharistic ministers from St. Catherine of Siena parish in Carrollton, Texas for their dedicated spiritual service to Isabelle & the other Catholic residents at Villagio.  Isabelle will be greatly missed & forever loved by her family & friends. A memorial service is pending to be held at Holy Angels Church in San Angelo, Texas. A funeral Mass for Isabelle Swirczynski has been scheduled for April 26, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the Holy Angels Catholic Church located at 2309 A & M, San Angelo, TX 76904.  In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Isabelle’s charity, The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs https://www.volunteer.va.gov/ Please send family condolences and sign the guestbook on this website.

I remember the many times when her ‘ornery’ son, Sam, would bring me down to San Angelo from Clovis, New Mexico, when we were in the Air Force together. She was always gracious and kind during our visits and somewhat concerned about whatever ‘trouble’ we were looking for. I always had the impression that she was strong in spirit. I know Sam was there to meet her when she passed away because he loved her very much.

This sweet lady was my Angel on earth. I had to work and Wyzibelle (as my children called her) came to my rescue. She loved Scott and Christi. She had Scott for 5 years and Christi for 12 years. She told me one time that Christi needed to go to a daycare with other children, or she would grow up to have old lady ways like hers. I cannot think of a better old ladies ways than Wyzbelle. I could go on for hours. Thank you family for sharing her with our family. Please let me in when the Memorial will be. Christi, Scott and Ronnie send our LOVE.

Granny Belle had 97 wonderful years with all of her family. She was extremely proud of all of us and would tell anyone who would listen anything and everything about us. My favorite memory is of hearing her laugh. She would get so tickled at some thought she had or some story she was trying to tell that she’d laugh so hard not a sound would come out. By the time she finished laughing, she would say, you made me laugh so hard my bobby pins nearly fell out. She saw it all in her time here. From riding in a covered wagon to seeing a man land on the moon and so much more. She would say “she is history” and that lived it all. She was glad she was able to tell all of us so many stories and details of her lifelong journey. My Granny is the strongest and most inspiring woman I have ever known. For anyone who knew her, you know what I mean.
