Obituary of Garner, Doris Mae

Doris Mae Garner of Trophy Club, Texas passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 25, 2014, at the age of 89. Doris was born October 22, 1924, in Foreman, Arkansas, to Eber Young and Jimmie Edith Ward Wolfe, and lived most of her life in the Wichita Falls area.  She attended schools in Burkburnett and Saint Jo, and graduated from Holliday High School.  Doris married Orvelle “Pat” Garner of Stamps-Ozark Quartet fame, and together they raised two daughters.  Most of her working career was that of a legal secretary for the late Stayton M. Bonner. After retirement, she moved to the Forth Worth area to be near her children. A former member of First Baptist Church in Wichita Falls, Doris was active in community service as a charter member of the Wichita Falls Grief Support Group. Well remembered for numerous selfless acts of kindness, Doris was an encourager and beacon of hope to anyone she met. She also became a second mom to her daughters’ numerous friends and cohorts. A visitation will be held at 9:30 am Thursday, March 27th at Legacy Church of Christ, 8801 Mid-Cities Blvd., North Richland Hills, TX, 76182, with a funeral service to follow at 10:30. Graveside Service will be in Burkburnett Cemetery at 3 pm on Thursday. Preceded in death by her husband, Doris is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law, Trevalyn and John Gruber, and Twyla and Jeff Berry. She will be missed by all those who knew her. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to the Alzheimer’s Association-North Central Texas Chapter, 2630 West Freeway, Suite 100, Fort Worth, TX  76102, 817-336-4949.
