Obituary of Moore, Virginia "Jinny"

It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Virginia “Jinny” Moore on April 23, 2014 at the age of 79. Jinny was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in October, 2012. She departed this world with the same grace and peace that she exuded each day of her life. Jinny is survived by her children: son Wade; daughter Ellen Sokolovic and husband Michael of Houston, TX; daughter Virginia Doherty and husband James and sons Jimmy and Patrick of Maplewood, NJ; daughter Leila Wallut and husband Eric and son Spencer of Dardenne Prairie, MO. She is also survived by her sister Grace Ellen Fitzgerald; niece Carolyn Stubbs and family. Other survivors include two special cousins Jinny considered brothers, Spencer Buchanan, Jr. and Philip Buchanan. Jinny was born in Austin, TX on March 27, 1935 to Ralph H. Wattinger and Virginia Norton. The family settled in Richmond, VA in the early 1940’s. In 1951, Jinny moved to College Station, TX with her mother and sister. There she met James E. Moore, a Texas A&M graduate, and married him in 1953. In 1963, their young family moved to Dallas. Jim and Jinny founded Moore Tree Company in 1964. Their company maintained many distinguished yards and trees in Dallas, including "the million dollar pecan tree” on Armstrong Pkwy in Highland Park.  Moore Tree Company also planted many of the trees in North Dallas near Midway and Forest Lane when it was farmland before houses were built. Some of Jinny's best times were spent at the family lake house at Cedar Creek Lake where she and Jim were members of the Dallas Chapter of the Power Squadron boating club. In the 1980’s and 1990’s Jinny independently owned Texas Star Printers and later, Glassworks, a stained-glass store in Plano. Jinny was employed by State Farm Insurance for the last 15 years and enjoyed the camaraderie of her associates. In addition to her favorite roles as Mother and Nana, other interests included gourmet cooking, needlepoint, animal advocacy, and enjoying her special friends in the Saturday Night Dinner Club. Anyone who ever crossed paths with Jinny will never forget her compassion, love of all God's creatures, and joy for living. The family thanks special friends, Laura Gambill and Leticia DeSaloms. In addition, they are grateful to Allen Hyserman and the special people at Community Hospice of Texas for their loving care. A memorial service will be held Saturday afternoon, April 26th at 2 pm at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church, 5923 Royal Lane, Dallas 75230. In lieu of floral remembrances, the family requests donations be made “In memory of Jinny Moore" to the Dallas Arboretum at 8525 Garland Rd, Dallas TX 75218. Please send the family condolences on this website.

She will always be dear to my family and I.
My girls (specifically the eldest one)thought of her as another “Nana” so they had 3 grandmothers.

I am so blessed to have met her.
She was such a loving, sweet, fun, strong, & independent lady that I will always admire.

Wade, Leila, Virginia, & Ellen we will always keep you in our thoughts & prayers.

    Love,
    Rocio & family
