Hassell, Mary Johns
Mary Johns Hassell Born April 3, 1925 in Etowah, Tennessee to Flora Mathis Johns and Thomas Johns and passed from this world on May 3, 2014 in Plano, Texas after a long battle with heart disease. A graduate of Southern Methodist University in 1962 with a BA in Math and History, Mary taught math in the Dallas Independent School District for over 30 years primarily at Thomas C. Marsh Middle School. She earned her MEd from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas in 1970. Mary is survived by her longtime friend and companion Richard Bain, daughter Jane Wishon and husband Keith Wishon of Los Angeles, CA; daughter Elizabeth Griffith and husband Augustus Griffith of Dallas, TX; grandchildren Christine Wishon Miksza and husband David Miksza of Berkeley, CA, and Stephen Wishon and Michael Wishon of Los Angeles, CA; nieces Jane Smith of Sulphur Springs, TX and Gail Milligan of Winston-Salem, NC; and nephews J. Gordon Harris of Bismarck, SD and John Harris of Terrell, TX. Mary was a member of Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church since 1959. A memorial service will be held at the church on Wednesday, May 14 at 4:30pm. In lieu of flowers Mary asked that donations be made to Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, 9800 Preston Road, Dallas TX.
