Wells, Adriana Iza

-

Adriana Wells (deRegt), 80, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, July 12, 2014. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Saturday, July 19th at: Rejoice Lutheran Church, 532 E Sandy Lake Rd., Coppell, TX 75019 (972) 724-2323 Reverend Ernie Hinojosa officiating.

Adri was born in the province of Zeeland, Holland on August 29, 1933 in Heinkenszand. She was the third child of seven children to Hendrik Eduard deRegt (1902-1974) and Cornelia deRegt-Schrier (1907-2000). In 1938 the family moved to the village of Winkel in the province of North-Holland.  She is preceded in death by her parents and two older siblings; Leni Buitenhuis-deRegt (1929-1965) and Iza Roos-deRegt (1930-2000). Adri is survived by her brothers Rinus (1934) and Henk (1936) and her sisters Miek (1939) and Ali (1941).

Adri finished secondary-modern school in Winkel. This is also where she and her family survived the war. In her early years, Adri worked in an office in Amsterdam and was a housekeeper on a fruit farm in North-Holland. Later, she served as an au-pair (nanny) in France, Denmark, and England. It was while she worked as an au-pair at an English estate that she first met her future husband, John Wells.

After immigrating to the U.S. in 1954, John invited Adri to visit him and they were subsequently married on March 2, 1957.   They had two daughters Rhoda Karen and Marian Ellen. In 1967 John and Adri moved their family from San Antonio to Farmers Branch, TX and this is where they raised their two girls. Adri enjoyed many things in life. She loved music, yoga, swimming, knitting, traveling, meeting people, and celebrating life. She could often be seen dancing and singing while she worked. She enjoyed working as a greeter at a local furniture store (Gabberts) and doing volunteer work. She often helped other immigrants with English at the local community college and volunteered at her church. She was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and friend. She will be missed.

She is survived by husband John Harold Wells of Farmers Branch; daughters Rhoda Moriak and husband Eric of Carrollton; Marian Roberson and husband Dale of Carrollton; granddaughters Shannon Moriak of Denton; and Jennifer Moriak of Carrollton.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Adri’s name to Metrocrest Services

Marian, I know you will miss your Mother. I feel so glad to have been able to meet her. She hugged me and danced with me as if she had known me all her life. There’s an old saying that the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree. That would be you and your Mom. I’m so grateful that the tree rooted and bared such sweet fruit/apples. With Heartfelt Sympathy.

Tracey Flood says:

Adriana will be missed by all her church family at Grace. She was a great neighbor to Rosemary and Curtis and this is how I first met her and John. She is now in God’s gracious arms.

charlotte weirich says:

Adriana was a close friend of mine for many years. The city of Farmers Branch was the residence of both of us , being a small community, we met often walking around Rawhide Park, attending St. Paul Lutheran Church, and doing activities at the Northaven YMCA.
Next we both attended Grace Lutheran Church of Carrollton. She was also active in the tulip festival at the Dallas Botanical Gardens, showing the Holland warmth and friendship. Her life has ended too soon, cutting short her gifts to many people learning English and blessing her family and friends in multiple ways.

Meta Evenbly says:

Sleep gently in the Lord’s arms, Adri. I thank Him for your life. You were such a wonderful person. I much admired you. When I think of you I find myself in your living room where you told me some of the course of your life. Heaven is sure to rejoice in you now. My husband Frits’ and my condolences go out to John and your daughters and all who love you. Until we meet again.

Adriana was a friendly, thoughtful, and generous of spirit lady. I met her in our exercise and yoga class several years ago. We always put our yoga mats close to each other so we could chat before and after class while putting on shoes and rolling up our mats. Then we continued on to the parking lot with our talks. Adri had such an interesting life and loved her family so much. John and family, my deepest sympathy goes to you. May your many happy memories of Adriana comfort you in the days and years ahead.
