Obituary of Crier, Carolyn Ann

Carolyn Ann Crier passed into God’s hands on the 24th of July, 2014. She was born at Dallas’ Florence Nightingale Hospital September 6, 1952, to parents William T. Crier Jr. and Ann Priddy Crier. She grew up in Dallas and was a graduate of Richardson High School. Later, she earned a BS in criminal justice from the University of Texas at Arlington. Intertwined with her education was periodic work in the Dallas restaurant industry and activity as a licensed real estate sales person. Texan by birth and a gypsy at heart, Carolyn’s 62 years spanned a constantly evolving range of interests. Her world closely orbited the love of art, animals and travel. Early on, she participated in her family’s horse farm dedicated to the breeding and exhibiting of purebred Arabian horses. She was a natural equestrian and rode in competitive events at the Texas State Fair and area horse shows. A talented amateur artist, she delighted in spending a month in Paris visiting museums and making forays into the countryside. On one occasion, she solo toured Europe for six weeks on a Eurail pass which included a look behind the then Iron Curtain. She proudly recalled being among a million people in the Warsaw stadium celebrating Pope John Paul II’s first return to Poland following his election. Crossing borders and spanning language barriers were no problem for Carolyn. She always made new friends wherever she went. More recently her wanderlust saw her climbing Inca ruins in the Peruvian Andes and photographing wildlife on the Veldt of Africa. This sweet, kind and gentle soul will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her parents and sisters, Catherine Crier of Westchester, New York and Cynthia Crier of New York City. A service celebrating Carolyn’s life will be held in Cox Chapel of the Highland Park United Methodist Church on Wednesday August 6th at 3 o’clock. A reception for family and friends will follow in the Church’s activity center. Memorials may be made to the SPCA of Texas or to the charity of choice. Please send the family condolences on this site.

So many wonderful memories! Good times and LOTS of laughs!! From the time I first met Carol, we shared a unique and totaly positive and close friendship, even when our lives were challenged with difficulties. For some reason, we always laughed, even in bad times. I will miss her, but will always have the memories of the precious time she shared in her life with us. God has a plan for all of us.

Carol & I were both Virgos and kindred spirits in many ways. She taught me much about horses. We both loved horses, art, travel and learning about different cultures. Our time at the stables in Texas in our youth was a time I have never forgotten! After high school together, we lost contact for a while, but our paths were forever connected and we found one another again and again. I found Carol most recently through social media while I was living in Oregon. I so much wanted Carol to come visit, and so did as well, but it was not to be. I will always regret that. I thought for sure that Carol would show up in her Saab convertible and play with my 3 horses, breathe the fresh mountain air and we would catch up with what had happened in our lives. There aren’t many people in my life that I can say have been lifetime friends, but I can say that about Carol. I’ll miss our conversations. I’ll miss meeting her dog. But most of all I’ll miss that laugh. Carol’s laugh always made me smile. No matter how far apart we were, I could see her face when she laughed. It lit up like a thousand moon beams. She was a “sweet, kind and gentle soul” and is already missed by me. My condolences and love go to her mom and dad and her sisters, Cathy and Cindy, that I remember so fondly.

Carol and I attended RHS- Class of 70. We had several classes together. I was so happy to make contact with her again on Facebook. She was a sweet person then and continued to be that person throughout her life. I will miss you Carol.
