Fava, Darlene

Darlene Fava was born in Brooklyn, NY to parents Thomasina Randazzo and the late Joseph Randazzo on December 10, 1960.  She passed into God’s hands on Thursday, July 31, 2014.  Darlene was known to her family and friends as “Doll”.

Darlene leaves behind her husband, Vincent Fava; two daughters, Melissa Garcia (husband Joseph) and Dana Fava (husband Charles Sands); two sisters DonnaMarie Gregory and Debra Randazzo and three grandchildren; Melita Garcia, Vincent Garcia and Charlotte Fava-Sands.

Darlene grew up in New York City but also lived a rural life in the Pocono Mountains for 11 years.  While there she enjoyed the forests, streams and wildlife of the area.  Her personal project was beautifying the natural landscape by seeding the woods with wildflowers and enjoying the butterflies that followed.

With a move to Texas in 2000 as her children entered high school, Darlene earned her second nickname of “Mom” to their many friends for her warm hospitality.  Throughout the years, Darlene’s interests included a love of cooking and of music.  Her taste ranged from banana bread and Barbra Streisand to baked ziti and Pink Floyd (her favorite dish and band).

Even though her life ended much too soon, she was fortunate enough to witness the marriage of both her children and to enjoy her precious grandchildren who she often said were her “angels on Earth”.  It is comforting to know they now have a special angel in Heaven looking down upon them.

Doll will be missed and remembered by family and friends for her unique sense of humor, but most especially for her kind heart and generosity.

Knowing Darlene’s love of animals, especially the many pets that she loved and cared for, the family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Operation Kindness in Carrollton, TX or to any “no kill” animal shelter.

Please send family condolences and sign the guestbook on this website.

Vinnie and family: I did not have the pleasure of meeting Doll; however, there were so many (people and animals) to be so blessed to have had her in their lives. Take comfort in nature as she did. As you go through Life take time to smell the flowers. Remember, Love is like a butterfly, it goes wherever it pleases and pleases wherever it goes. I am so sorry for the loss of your loved one.

To all family and friends of Darlene: my thoughts of love and healing go to you. May you take this time to reminisce in the role she played for you in the physical world: mother, sister, grandmother, friend. Now remember that her body may no longer be with us in this world but her spirit continues living with you and looking down on you from the better place she is in now. All my love to you Dana and Cas, may you two carry on in your mother’s beautful spirit.

Her Babygirl Dana says:

It is in that moment when we are brave enough to share our thoughts with a fellow griever and they nod, smile and understand that we know we are not alone.
I have been having a hard time searching for the words by myself to say exactly what I want so here is a few quotes that I found to be appropriate…
“Here is the worst thing about having someone you love die, it happens again every single morning”
-Which couldn’t be more true every time I open my eyes relive hearing the words that I never wanted to hear until I was old and gray.
“The greatest gift you can give someone is your time”
-My mama always gave me the greatest of gifts then, her time was always so special to me, even when we would get into our bickerments about stuff that now seems so silly, our crazy conversations of life over coffee and cigarettes, our trips to the grocery stores even taking her to her doctor appointments were always precious, special and important to me. She was my closest friend. Someone I could always depend on.
“Love your mother, the most beautiful person on this earth. Our best critic yet our strongest supporter. A depth of love unspoken”
-I just hope she is aware of how much I thank her for being such a huge part of my journey of life.
“A mother’s love is patient and forgiving. When all others are forsaking, it never fails or falters even when there heart is breaking”
-Mama wasn’t always the most patient person in general but with me and our differences we always found ways to overcome. Her love was strong, intense and the truest I ever felt next to that of my own daughter. I never had to guess or wonder if she loved me. We made it apparent every single day how much we loved and meant to each other, even when we bumped our very stubborn heads. she would say to me “If only I could see through her eyes, then I’d know how special Winnie and I were to her’
Pink Floyd said it “think of all the good things that we have left undone”
-Mama had so much more to offer this world and as angry as I am that she is gone to soon. I won’t hold onto that anger she wouldn’t want me too. So i will celebrate all the things she did, gave me and celebrate her life along with all she did offer.
“Mothers and children are in a category of there own. Theres no bond so strong in the entire world no love so instantaneous and forgiving”
-I forgive you mama for the past and will hold you in my heart for my future.

We are all thinking of you and the girls. I know this has been very rough for you and everyone in your family. We all love you like family, and if there is anything you need just say the word and consider it done. We all echo the deepest condolences and I hope that you and the girls find a moments peace in this time of sorrow. We are all better people from the lessons we learned, the wonderful memories, and a legacy of love that should serve as a reminder of what we gained and not the sadness of what we lost.

Michelle Kilpatrick says:

You and your family are in my prayers.

Joe Castagliola says:

The world has lost a beautiful person. I met Darlene in 2000 in Dallas and had the pleasure of seeing her and having conversations several times. I’ve never forgotten her. She exuded warmth, friendship and caring. Together with others we all shared laughs, smiles and good times. I send prayers for Darlene and the family. The world loses a beautiful person, but heaven gains an angel.

Vinny millisa and Dana my deepest condolences.
At first I there no words . Now I have so many. I met Debbie when I was five Doll was only two when she got older we became friends we hung out in 64 park and played in the sprinklers. When we were old enough we went dancing all the time. Doll took me to my first rocky horror picture show I had no idea what it was I had the greatest time. Doll was my beautiful bridesmaid my best friend and the sister I never had. I remember us driving to florida with my dad wehad a wonderful time. I even lost my job for going but I ddidn’t care.So many laughs so many good times. I will miss her laugh and our two hour phone conversations. Who will I call now when I need a shoulder to cry on Doll was always there for me I hope she knew I was always there for her too. Of all the friends I have had in my life no one has loved me more than she has I knew It I felt it .it feels like I could pick up the phone and talk with her.
You can’t fix a broken window you just replace the pane but there is no pain great enough to replace her face with my eyes matted shut from the tears that I slept on. I thank God for the pictures and her voice on my cell phone. I will never have a friend like her ever again no matter how many rivers I cry my heart will never let her go I’ll never say goodbye our friendship is forever. Although she is away physically she will always live in my heart. She will live forever locked safe within my heart.
Darlene your a wonderful gift in my life.
