Obituary of Parton, Rease Leon

Rease Leon Parton ~ 9/01/30 -7/31/14 Leon was a gentle man. He was an avid reader who loved classical music, reading, and crossword puzzles. Dementia took away his memory, but it did not take away his sense of humor or his sincere love for others. Leon was a quiet man. He did not talk about his many accomplishments or the diverse businesses his accounting career allowed him to pursue, but he would easily tell you about those of his family and friends. He might not have told you about his work with Consolidated Wig Corp, handling design, production, packaging, for products such as the Supremes Wig Collection, or his travels to Asia to make sure that his patterns were perfectly produced. And he might have stayed silent about his silent partnership in Joe Miller, a popular Dallas bar in the late 70’s and early 80s. Leon was a proud man. He grew up in the 1930’s and 40s on a ranch in rural Oklahoma with cows, horses and some sheep. He liked being useful and stayed active as long as he could, acting as business manager for the Stonewall Jackson PTA after-school program after his official retirement. He was not perfect. He was a “non-smoker” often caught sneaking a cigarette. He hated going to the doctor, and he did not like to ask for help. He liked (and told) bad jokes and both of his children have unique senses of humor and a love of words. But he was loving. He asked for little and wanted to give more than he could. He loved his family deeply and was a supportive husband and proud father. He enjoyed spending time with his friends, whether at home or on group camping trips where he was sometimes referred to as the “margarita man.” Leon will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 37 years, Sandra Guthrie Parton, son, Myles Rease Parton of Arlington, TX, and daughter, Hilary Blake Parton of Brooklyn, NY. Other survivors are his brother Edward Parton, wife Jane, their children Lisa Holcomb and Bryan Parton and their families; his cousin Roberta Janeway; nephew John Rease Parton and great niece Germaine Mowery; nephew James, wife Anne and their daughter Sophie Nicholson; and niece Rebecca, husband George and their son Devin Clive. His family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Compassionate Care Hospice and Monticello West, who helped to ease his transition. There will be a memorial service on Saturday, August 9, at 11:00 a.m., with a reception to follow, at Ridgewood Park United Methodist Church, 6445 East Lovers Lane, Dallas. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Stonewall Jackson Gardens, Ridgewood Park UMC or Compassionate Care Hospice Please send family condolences and sign the guestbook on this website.

Hilary and Sandy, my thoughts and prayers are with you. I have good memories of Leon always being helpful and supportive with endless Woodrow musicals and Variations performances. Leon was a wonderful man to have on your side. There is never a good time to say goodbye. My heart is sad for you.
