Obituary of Bain, Karlen B.

Bain, Karlen Bruner 71, died Sunday, December 6. 2009, surrounded by her family at Medical City Dallas hospital. Born in Amarillo, TX, the daughter of the late R.K. and Claudia Atteberry Bruner Hogg, she was a graduate of Amarillo High School and attended the University of Texas at Austin where she met her future husband. She and her family later lived in Dallas, TX, Los Angeles, CA, Jackson, MS, Nashville, TN, returning to Dallas in 1993. Always a leader and organizer, she was very involved in the arts community in Jackson, MS where she lived for 21 years. She acted and directed in Children's Theatre; volunteered in the MS Arts Festival, and was part of the group that successfully brought the International Ballet Competition to Mississippi in 1986. Her family includes her husband of 52 years, Travis Bain; her sons, Travis Bain III and his wife Joy of Aubrey, TX; Jim Bain and his life partner, J.R. McGinnis of Los Angeles; her granddaughter, Bridget Bain of Gainesville, FL, her sister-in-law, Gladys Jenson and her husband Randy; and many cousins, nephews and nieces. Memorial services will be held Thur. 12/10 at 2pm at her beloved Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church, 9800 Preston Rd., Dallas, TX (214-368-6348) . In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Karlen's honor care of the Pastor's Fund of Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church.
