Celebration of the Life of Barbara Wood

Barbara Elizabeth Wood was born March 19, 1933, in Dallas, Texas.

She grew up in Dallas, Texas and graduated from North Dallas High School. She met the love of her life, Barney Ezra Wood and they were married in June 1954. Barney and Barbara raised four children and were active at Royal Haven Baptist Church and then First Baptist Church Carrollton. During these years, Barbara served in Vacation Bible School, the Good News Club and was a member of the Live Wire Choir. Barbara was also a greeter and welcomed members and visitors with her bubbly personality.

Throughout her 89 years of life, she always found joy in and time for her children, 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. She could always be found at the baseball field or on the sidelines of a sporting event. She loved to travel and watch her grandkids play baseball, volleyball, cheer, and drill team, which luckily occurred at football games. Our sweet Mawmaw never missed a ball game, and you could usually hear her ‘politely’ telling the ump if they were wrong when a call was made. She would ask about all her kids and grandkids friends and families. She knew them by name, and she truly cared! Holidays at her house were our favorites – it was crowded and loud but full of laughter and love!

On Tuesday, August 2, 2022, Barbara closed her eyes and woke up in the presence of her Lord and Savior. She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Sheri Wood, daughter and sonin-law, Cindy and Mark Miller, her son and daughter-in-law, Keith and Lori Wood and her son, Paul Wood and her sister Jennifer and her husband Gaylon Jones. She has 7 grandchildren: Aaron and his wife Mindi Wood; Julie and her husband Jeremy Fikac; Colton Wood; Kyle and his wife Audrey Miller, Morgan and her husband Marshall May, Melia Wood, and Katie Miller. She was also blessed with 8 amazing great grandchildren: Rhyli, Maddox, and Deacon Wood; Emerson, Anderson and Hudson Fikac; and Wesley and Jack Miller. She was Aunt Barbara to many nieces and nephews.

The Wood family wishes to express their sincere appreciation for all the family, friends and caregivers who shared in caring for our mother.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Living Proof Choir at First Baptist Church at The Fields, 1400 Carrollton Parkway, Carrollton, Texas 75060.

The family will welcome visitors on Saturday, August 6, 2022, at 10:00, with funeral service following at 11:00 at First Baptist Church at The Fields.

I have lost “The Light” of a wonderful and lasting 72 year friendship That “Light” has been transferred to Heaven where it is lighting for Eddie, Anna , Billy and others. This hurts so save me a place. Phyllis Allen

I was so luck to know this woman for almost 49 years. She lived across the alley from us and we were all like family. I was lucky enough to be one of her caregivers which worked out great since we knew each other for such a long time. I know she is with Barney now and they will spend eternity together with the lord. I love you and your family Barbara. Thanks for all the laughs!

Barbara and I have been friends since 1952. My family and I were new to Dallas; looking for a church home, we visited North Temple Baptist. Barbara was my “greeter” , made me feel at home and lasting friendship of 70 years. She and Eddie, along with the Wood family, have been treasured friends all these years.
She blessed many. What a Christ-like legacy she has left for generations of the future.
