āI highly recommend this funeral home and crematorium; when I had to make and pay for my brotherās arrangements across state lines, Evelyn Montonya, in particular, demonstrated both compassion and professionalism and made a very sad and difficult situation much easier. Many thanks.ā

Obituary of
Bastie, Ferdinand "Fred" C.
BASTIE, FERDINAND "FRED" CLIFFORD Born 5/27/32 to Emmeline Pearl Langille & Frederick Joseph Bastie in Halifax, Nova Scotia, & left his earthly home to be with our Lord on August 30, 2010. After his father died at an early age Fred & his brother left high school to work on a ship on the Great Lakes to support their family. Two years later he joined the Royal Canadian Mounted Police where he served until meeting his true love, Dorothy "Dottie" Dziedzic, while stationed in Windsor, Ontario. They married on March 2, 1957 & Fred began a lifelong career with Transamerica as a vice president & later as a lobbyist. His career took them to Detroit MI, Akron OH, Albuquerque NM & finally Houston TX, where they lived for 40 years. He willingly retired at 57 & played golf every day, weather & health permitting, for 20 years. He avidly followed sports, the stock market, politics, & golf. He truly loved life, his family & friends. Fred is survived by his loving & devoted wife of 53 years, Dottie Bastie; 3 children & their families: Michele & Chuck Pederson of Houston, Sheri & Fred Bastie of Dallas, & Kathy Corl of Houston; 6 grandchildren: Casey Hall, Kristina Hall, Reed Bastie, Brooke Bastie, Ryan Corl & Evan Corl. Brother & sister-in-law, Faye & Bob Bastie; sister & brother-in-law, Sharon & Wayne Schelleman both of Halifax, NS. He is also survived by 2 nieces, Cherie & Patty & 1 nephew, Rob also in Halifax, NS. A very close Canadian cousin, Gerry Bastie, recently wrote these words about Fred: "He could have been the picture boy for a big brother ad or an example of what everyone wanted in a friend or relative. He loved his family & was so proud of his younger generations: The Charlie Hustle of family relations. To know him or have him in your family was a bonus of the highest order. He could easily go to heaven, raised by the tears of his friends & family. My cousin Ferdy is a hallmark of special memories for everyone he touched in life." On Friday, September 3, 2010 at 4:00pm there will be a Memorial Service celebrating his life followed by a short reception at his church, St. Francis de Sales, 8200 Roos Road, Houston, TX 77036. A private burial will be held at Restland Cemetery in Dallas, TX on Saturday, September 4, 2010. Remembrances may be made to the Southwestern Medical Foundation in support of the UT Southwestern vascular department, 2305 Cedar Springs Road, Suite 150, Dallas, TX 75201-7805. TO THE WORLD HE MAY HAVE BEEN ONE PERSON, BUT TO HIS FAMILY HE WAS THE WORLD.
