Braak, David A.
Braack, David Allen 78, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 25, 2010, following a lengthy illness. David was born on April 9, 1932, in Davenport, Iowa to Herb and Wilma Braack. He graduated from Davenport High School in 1950. Following high school, he was "raised" by his father into Masonic Lodge 221 A.F. and A.M. Valley of Davenport and was a member of the Scottish Rite for 50 years. David served in the United States Army during the Korean War as a sergeant with the 123d Infantry, Ft. Lewis, Washington. In 1954, he was awarded The Good Conduct Medal for his years of service. Upon David's discharge from the army, he graduated from Lake Forest College in Illinois. He was employed as an inside salesman with the Frank G. Hough Company and later with Standard Forgings in Chicago, Illinois. In 1958, David married Judy Cook. During the next ten years, they had three sons: David, Douglas and Andrew. In 1969, the family moved from Lake Bluff, Illinois, to Dallas, Texas, where David started the business Momentum Metals with his partner, Bill Krause. David served as member and president of the Manufacturers' Agents National Association. David was an active member of Christ United Methodist Church for 42 years. He served the church in various roles and enjoyed being a part of the scouting program in the cub pack and scout troop at the church, as well as other scouting activities in the district. David and his wife, Judy, loved to travel and spend time with their family. They would have celebrated their 52nd anniversary this July. David is survived by his wife Judy Cook Braack of Dallas; his son David A. Braack Jr. and his wife Barbara; son Douglas M. Braack and wife Dana; son Andrew H. Braack and wife Kimberly. David is also survived by his seven grandchildren: Stephen, William, Sam, Laney, Jonathan, Annie and Hayden, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. David's family loved him dearly and will miss him greatly. They are thankful that he is no longer suffering. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at 3:00 p.m., at Christ United Methodist Church, 2807 Valwood Parkway, Farmers Branch, Texas. A private inurnment will be at the DFW National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to Christ United Methodist Church, Boy Scout Troops 734 or 32 or a charity of your choosing.
