Obituary of
Brown, Betty M.
Brown, Betty Maude Dearly loved mother and grandmother passed away August 7, 2009 in Dallas. She was born on January 11, 1933 to George and Nyna Higgins in Tuttle, Oklahoma where she made and maintained lifelong friendships. She went on to graduate from Oklahoma State University with a BS in Education and later earned her Masters in Counseling from East Texas State University. During her 40+ years working as a counselor with D.I.S.D. she received numreous awards and honors and was featured in the Dallas Morning News (December 1999) in an article about her dedication to helping troubled students succeed. Through this dedication, many of her former students have gone on to pursue successful careers both in collegiate and professional sports. After retiring in 2005, she spent her time traveling abroad and enjoying her grand-daughter. Betty is preceded in death by her sister Mary Louise Higgins Mathis. She is survived by son James Wayne Brown from Cleburne, Texas, daughter Barbara Brown Knuth, son-in-law Rene Wolfgang Knuth, grand-daughter Monamolin Elsa Knuth of Dallas, Texas, brother George Wayne Higgins Jr. and sister-in-law Thelma Higgins of Alhambra, California., and numberous nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday, August 10, 2009 at White Rock Methodist, Burial will be Tuesday, August 11, 2009 at 1:00 PM in Snyder, Oklahoma, and a Memorial Service will be held Wednesday at White Rock Methodist (Please call 972-240-7122 for time).
