Obituary of
Burrus, George C.
Craig entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on Sunday, October 10 at his home in Dallas. He was 74 years old. Craig was born in New York City July 8, 1936. He attended Syracuse University where he was a student in the New York State College of Forestry. He graduated from Syracuse in June 1958. Upon graduation Craig entered the U.S. Air Force and trained as a pilot. He saw service in Vietnam where he flew over 200 missions as a C130 pilot. He left the Air Force in 1965 as a Captain and began a career with Delta Airlines that would be his work for the next 32 years. He retired from Delta as a Captain in 1996. While flying for Delta he used his free time taking classes in woodworking and carpentry at Northlake Community College in Irving. After his retirement he became a teacher for those courses and did so until 2010. Craig was a master woodworker and enjoyed building furniture for his home and friends. He enjoyed hunting and was a member of the Dallas Woods and Water Club. He was also an Eagle Scout. Craig was an active Numismatist for many years with an exceptional collection. He will be best remembered by his friends as a person always ready to help with any task or need. He was an exceptional friend to many and will be deeply missed. Craig is survived by his wife Lynn, his son Steven of Whitewright, Texas, his daughter Elizabeth Gandy (Russell) of University Park, three grandsons; Carson, Ryan and Holt and one granddaughter, Gracie. Services for Craig will be held at the North Dallas Funeral Home on Monday, October 18 at 11 a.m. Memorial gifts can be designated for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis research at Mayo Clinic.
