Obituary of Colvert, Juanita "Tommie" T.

Age 84, died Tuesday, April 7, after a courageous fight with cancer. She is survived by her daughter, Jan Colvert; brother, Sam Thomas, daughter-in-law, Sue Orrell Colvert; grandchildren, Merideth Colvert and Christopher Colvert II, and 4 great grandchildren. She is also survived by brothers-in-law, James B. Colvert and his wife, Mary, F.M. Howell and many loving nephews, nieces and cousins. Preceding her in death were her parents, Sam Thomas and Rosa Lee Nader Thomas; sisters, Selma Thomas Reardon and Katherine Thomas Howell, her loving husband of 58 years, Carroll Colvert, and her beloved son, Chris Colvert. She was born in Marshall, Texas on January 18, 1925 and was a graduate of Marshall High School. She was very proud of her Lebanese ancestry. She graduated from Stephen F. Austin State College prior to her marriage on March 3, 1946 to Carroll Colvert. She was the first member of her family to obtain a college degree. She was a homemaker, secretary, and bookkeeper. She and her husband opened Colvert Music Co. in Dallas in 1963. She concluded her career in her late 70's as the personal assistant to the chairman and chief executive officer of Brook Mays Music Co. After the death of her husband, Tommie discovered Texas Hold'm Poker at the Farmers Branch Senior Center. Mrs. Colvert was a proud member of the SFA Alumni Association. The family will receive friends, Monday, April 13 from 6-8 pm at the North Dallas Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, April 14, at Saint Matthias Episcopal Church, 3460 Forest Lane, in Dallas. The celebrant will be the Rev. Father Dwight D. Duncan, SSC. Following the funeral there will be a procession to Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Colvert Family Music Scholarship through Stephen F. Austin Alumni Association, P.O. Box 6096, Nacogdoches, Tx 75962 or the charity of your choice.
