Obituary of
Cottingham, Robert L.
Robert Leroy (Bob) Cottingham passed into eternal life on Sunday, October 19, 2008. Bob, 79, was born on September 21, 1929, in Amarillo, Texas. He graduated Walnut Hill Grade School and Kemper Military Academy. At SMU he was a member of Pi KA. After graduation from Harvard Business graduate school, he joined Cottingham Bearing Company in 1952. After his father's death in 1953 he took over and established the company until it was sold in 1982. The company grew from 9 employees and 2 stores to 150 employees and 30 stores in Texas and Oklahoma. Bob enjoyed traveling all over the world. After retirement he taught business courses at Miss Wade's Fashion School for 3 years and was voted "Teacher of the Year" by the students. He was a director of the North Texas Industrial Distributor Association, Director of H.U.G., Director of 1st City Bank Industrial Division, a member of the Bearing Specialist Association and Highland Park Presbyterian Church where he was an usher and kindergarten teacher. He was president of Caruth Homeowner's Association for 2 years. He is predeceased by parents Cecil and Frances Cottingham and his brother Jim Cottingham. He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Anne, son Wade and his wife Dana, son Jim and his wife Kisha and grandson Xander, nieces Margot Reubel of Dallas, Beth Flynn of Austin, and nephew Colin Cottingham. A memorial service will be held in Wynne Chapel, Highland Park Presbyterian Church, John McCoy presiding, Tuesday, October 21, 2008, at 4 pm. Memorial gifts, in lieu of flowers, may be sent to the SPCA of Texas, Attn: Development, 2400 Lone Star Drive, Dallas, TX, 75212 and to the Alzheimer's Association Greater Dallas Chapter, 4144 North Central Expressway, Suite 750, Dallas, TX 75204.
