Obituary of Ferris, Robert "Bob" D.

Ferris, Robert D. Robert D. "Bob" Ferris passed away on December 31, 2009, at Presbyterian Hospital in Dallas. He was born in Milford, CT in 1926, and was a graduate of University School in Fairfield, CT. Bob served in the Marine Corps in the Pacific in WWII with Marine Air Group - 21. He participated in the liberation of Guam from the Japanese in 1944, and also flew supplies onto Iwo Jima and evacuated the wounded after the island had been captured by the Marines. After returning to college, he was transferred to Dallas in 1948 by Chance Vaught Aircraft and served in various capacities in the engineering test material and industrial engineering departments. In 1960 he formed Ferris Co and Associates as engineering representatives in the defense and energy industries. He served in this capacity until his death. Bob served as a Deacon at First Presbyterian Church when the Stew Pot Ministry was established, which today serves over four thousand meals a day. He served as a reserve Elder at Highland Park Presbyterian Church and was a past president of the Tom Currie Bible Class. He served on the board of the Marine Military Academy in Harlingen, TX for 24 years and was a member of the Dallas and Park Cities Rotary Clubs for over 46 years. He was a member of the Marine Corps Air Transport Association, and attended the monthly meetings of the Metroplex Marines. He participated many years in the Park Cities' fourth of July parades, winning many accolades and a few first place prizes for his parade entries with his red convertible. Bob was preceded in death by his wife, Katherine Ferris; and by brothers, George and Donald Ferris. He is survived by nephews, Robert and Allan Ferris. A Memorial Service will be conducted on Monday, January 25th at 4:00 p.m. at Highland Park Presbyterian Church, 3821 University Drive, Dallas, TX 75205.
