Obituary of Holder, Ronald W.

Ronald W. Holder, born September 13, 1936 in Texarkana, TX, died on March 22, 2009. Ron, a long-time resident of Farmers Branch, was a devoted Aggie and sports fan. He enjoyed a variety of professions in his rich life, including working as an aerospace engineer, designing the second-stage engines for the Saturn and Apollo V rockets. After the moon landing, Ron returned to Texas A&M, earning a PhD in civil engineering with a specialty in mass transportation planning. Ron worked many years at Texas Transportation Institute in College Station, TX and with Turner, Collie & Braden in Houston and then Dallas. Ron, and his beloved wife, Barbara, opened their own real estate business and devoted themselves to their church, the First Baptist Church of Farmers Branch, where Ron served as a Deacon and on the Stewardship Committee. Ron is survived and will be greatly missed by his wife of 30 years, Barbara Janet ("BJ") Jones Holder; his daughters--Sherie R. Parker of Austin and Deanna Livingston and her husband, Phillip of Houston; his sisters-Betty Mason and her husband Frank of Albuquerque, NM, Beverly Lyford and her husband Martin of Dallas, and Brenda Brush of San Leon, TX; his brothers-Floyd Holder and his wife, Kathy of Lubbock, TX, Dorman Holder and his wife Linda of Dallas, Bobby Holder and his wife Carol of Jacksonville, TX; his grandchildren-Dustin, Ethan & Miranda Parker and Kelly & Ryan Livingston; many nieces and nephews; and many friends, all of whom will cherish his memory. Ron is preceded in death by his parents Floyd D. & Maxine Holder and sister, Barbara Susan Vervalin. Visitation will be Wed. March 25, 2009, 5:30-8:00pm at North Dallas Funeral Home. Celebration of Life, Thurs., March 26, 2009 at 11:00am First Baptist Church of Farmers Branch. Ron had asked that any donations in lieu of flowers be made to First Baptist Church of Farmers Branch in support of the music program. The family wishes to express its sincere appreciation and thanks to the many nurses, doctors and therapists who gave Ron such loving care.
