Obituary of Jerri Gussis

On the afternoon of June 29, 2022, Jerri Gussis of Frisco, Texas died at the age of 72. Jerri was born in 1950 to Melvin and Roberta Rittenhouse in Woodward, Oklahoma. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Political Science in 1971 from Northwestern State College in Oklahoma and her Master of Science in Political Science in 1973 from Oklahoma State University. Jerri found great fulfillment in her 28-year career as a political science professor at Richland College in Dallas. In March 1982, Jerri married Gene Gussis, and together they raised two sons, Dane and Dillon, who have given her the joy of being a grandmother to their combined 7 children. She is survived by her sister, Lynn Hamm. Jerri was passionate about politics, current events, teaching, reading, and tennis; and experienced abundant happiness over the years in her pursuit of these interests. She loved family above all and was deeply loyal to the family and friends she loved. Jerri spent the last 15 years of her life with Paul Gibson who loved and cared for her selflessly. Late in life, Jerri found Jesus and found hope in Him amidst her Parkinson diagnosis and hardships she endured in that. We praise God for taking her home to be with Him where she is fully healed. Jerri is preceded in death by her husband, Gene. She is survived by her 2 sons, Dane and Dillon, and her grandchildren, Isabella, Gage, Parker, Tate, Easton, Macie Jo and Lincoln.

A public memorial service will be held at 2:00pm in the afternoon on July 10, 2022

Providence Church in Frisco. Providence Church is located at 5625 Preston Rd, Frisco, TX 75034.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to American Parkinson Disease Association.

Dillon and family. As you prepare to celebrate your mother’s life I know you take great comfort in knowing she is in the loving arms of our Heavenly Father. The pain of loss is still there, and for that I am so sorry for your loss. “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” Revelations 21:4

Dillon and family. I know you celebrate the life of your mother and have great joy in knowing she is in Heaven. I also know the pain of the heart that has an empty place in it. Godā€™s word tells us ā€œā€˜He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more deathā€™ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.ā€ Revelationā€¬ ā€21:4ā€¬ ā€

I was so sad to learn of Jerriā€™s battle with Parkinsonā€™s and her passing this week after losing touch over the past few years. I am so happy she found you Paul and you were able to share the joys of grandchildren with her in the years after she and the boys lost Gene so suddenly. Dillon and Dane, I grieve with you in the loss of the smart, beautiful woman you were blessed to have as a mom. Jerri was always so strong and determined and I consider her a role model in my own life. May good memories carry you all through this difficult time. Love, Bobbi Pierson (COP spouse network/stitch ā€˜n #%?!*/Cypress ā€˜02-ā€˜06 & ā€˜08-10)
