Obituary of Miller, Sr., James S.

Age 84, of Plano, Texas passed away on May 8, 2011. He was born September 28, 1926 on a farm near Celina, Texas, the fifth of nine children, to Sam and Martha Miller. Jim graduated from Alla High School in 1945. He served in the Navy aboard the St. Paul during WWII after which he attended and graduated from Texas A&M in 1951. In 1956 Jim married Thelma Thompson in Pompano Beach, Florida. They settled in Falls Church, Virginia where they chose to raise their family. Jim spent 31 years with the US Department of Agriculture in Washington, D.C. In 1983 Jim retired from government service and moved to Citrus Heights, California, where he was the Executive Director of the California Walnut Marketing Board. Jim also served as President of the California Baptist Foundation. In 2000, Jim returned to his native Texas to be closer to his family. He loved the Lord with all his heart and was the best husband and dad in the world. Jim is survived by his wife, Thelma, of 55 years; son, James and wife, Amy; granddaughters, Margaret and Rosemary, of Carrollton, Texas; and son, Joel, of Atlanta, Georgia. Visitation will be Wednesday, May 11, 2011 from 6-8 pm in the Brooks Family Chapel at the North Dallas Funeral Home, 2710 Valley View Lane, Dallas, Texas 75234. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 12, 2011 at 2:00 pm at the First Baptist Church of Carrollton, 2400 N. Josey Lane, Carrollton, Texas 75006. Burial with honors will be Friday, May 13, 2011 at 10:00 am at the DFW National Cemetery, 2000 Mountain Creek Parkway, Dallas, Texas 75211. (Lane B) Funeral arrangements are under the personal direction of Retha N. Brooks
