Obituary of
Rawson, Donald W.
Rawson, Donald Walter 84,passed away June 2, 2010. Don attended Highland Park High School & Texas A&M Univ., graduating 1950. Don was a Sgt. in the U.S.M.C. in WWII. Fleet Admiral Chester W. Nimitz personally chose Don to serve as one of his Marine guards after noticing his marksmanship skills. Don served as a guard to Admiral Nimitz in Hawaii & Guam in 1945. He served in the Marines as a Lt. in the Korean War. He married Barbara Ruth Spalti, January 1951. After retirement, Don & Babs enjoyed a full life of travel. They enjoyed entertaining friends & family in their Dallas home & San Miguel, Mexico vacation home. Don is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter Becky Weaver & husband Tim; son Mike Rawson & wife Sue; grandchildren Chris Rawson, Worth Rawson & wife Chelsea & Cindy Blevins. Private burial with Marine honors took place at DFW National Cemetery June 4, 2010. A memorial service will be held 1:00pm, Sat. June 12 in the Chapel at St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church Dallas. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Feed the Hungry San Miguel, Inc., PMB 636, 220 N. Zapata Highway #11, Laredo, Texas 78043-4464
