Obituary of Smith, Jr., Anthony B.

Anthony Benjamin Smith, Jr. was born July 28, 1928 in Dallas, Texas to Anthony Smith, Sr. and Claire McCants Smith. He attended North Dallas High and Arlington State College. He served in the Army Air Corps until 1949. Ben worked as a news anchor, reporter and announcer for various TV and radio stations, including WBAP, KRLD, KIXL, KVIL and WRR. He developed a loyal listening audience, even winning awards for being 1st place in his time slot. He also served for many years in the Rusicrucian Order in Dallas, in various positions, including Grand Master of the Triangle Lodge. His main focus for most of his life was his family. He and his brother were surrogate fathers for his younger twin sisters as they grew up. He also helped look after the older members of his family as they aged. He was most proud of his son and grandchildren. He is survived by his son, Mark Burford and grandchildren, Susan Renee and Thomas Spencer, his twin sisters, Sharon Satterwhite and Sandra Davis and her husband, Larry Davis and many nieces and nephews. Interment will be with military honors on Friday, February 24, 2012 at 11:00 am at New Chatfield Cemetery in Chatfield, Texas. Any flower deliveries need to be made to the funeral home before 4:00 pm on Thursday, February 23, 2012. Please send the family condolences and sign the guestbook on this website.
