Obituary of
Stein, Brent L. a.
Local celebrity Brent Stein, 68, was born Dec. 4, 1942 in Dallas and passed away on April 28th, 2011. He graduated Hillcrest High in 1960 and attended the University of Oklahoma where he was a member of Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity. He transferred to the University of Arizona where he earned his bachelor's degree in business administration in 1964. Brent was best known as the editor of Dallas Notes, an underground newspaper, and as the creator and editor of Buddy Magazine, a magazine for music lovers that paid homage to Texas artist Buddy Holly. Brent had a deep appreciation for music which became an important part of his life. His quick wit, sense of humor and creative abilities were legendary and made him a unique individual who was loved by those who knew him. Brent was preceded in death by his grandparents and his father, Roy Stein, of Allied Printing company which Brent took over after his father's death. His longtime friend and employee Louisa "Tuts" Casey helped him with the venture. He is survived by his mother, Esther Barzune Stein, his sister and brother in law, Marleen Stein Gold and Ronald Gold, Uncle Sol and Aunt Estelle Barzune, first cousins Rosalee Cohen, Stuart Barzune, Dr. Lawrence and Dolores Barzune, Gail Barzune Loeb and Dr. Peter Loeb. He also leaves numerous other cousins who were a significant part of his life and many friends. Graveside services will be at 1:30 PM Sunday, May 1 at Shearith Israel cemetery, 4634 Dolphin Road, Dallas, Texas. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the charity of your choice. Services under the direction of Stephen Blend, Funeral Director and North Dallas Funeral Home.
