Obituary of Thrift, Yvonna C.

Yvonna Chilnessie Thrift was born in Simon, Oklahoma, on August 17, 1924. She passed away peacefully at the age of 88 on November 27, 2012 in Mesquite, Texas. Her unusual name came from an Indian girl that Yvonna's mother had befriended and liked so much that she gave the same name to her daughter. Always one to give her own brand of nicknames to everyone she knew, Yvonna also became known as "Y-vte", "Auntie Y', or just plain "Y" to many who loved her. In addition to her parents, George and Laurah McGonagill of Carlsbad, New Mexico, Yvonna was preceded in death by her husband of over 53 years, Raymond Thrift, and by her brother, A.G. McGonagill of Carlsbad, New Mexico. She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Kitty Thrift of Richardson, Texas, and by her daughter and son-in-law, Elayne and Donny Snyder of Albuquerque, New Mexico. Grandchildren and their spouses are Stacey and David Warner of Liberty Hill, Texas, Jeffrey and Heather Thrift of Wylie, Texas, Autumn and Darin Wade of Albuquerque, New Mexico and Julie Thrift of Richardson, Texas. Great-grandchildren are Katy and Dylan Warner, Cayden Thrift, and Hunter and Mackenzie Wade. Yvonna is also survived by her brother and his wife, George and Madeline McGonagill, and by her sister, Laura Meade, all of Carlsbad, New Mexico, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. Lifelong members of the Church of Christ, Yvonna and Raymond lived the majority of their marriage together in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and they were members of the Montgomery Boulevard congregation there. They were fortunate to have Harvey Porter as their minister and mentor for a number of years. Yvonna was devoted to her family above anything else, and she spent her life enjoying the satisfaction of loving her husband and teaching her children to love God, to be responsible citizens, and giving them the freedom and encouragement to "think big" and follow their dreams. When the grandhildren came long, they were just the icing on her family cake! Memorial Service: 2 p.m., Sunday, December 2, 2012, at the Christian Care Center Church of Christ, Mesquite, Texas. Please send family condolences and sign the guestbook on this website.

She was indeed a grand lady whose upbeat attitude was a blessing to all. We are thrilled that she’s now reunited with Raymond in paradise.

Yvonna was a special lady. Even though I didn’t see a lot of her in the past few years, I thought so much of her! She will always hold a special place in my heart. I know the family finds comfort that she is now and forever, “Safe in the Arms of Jesus”. May God bless each of you and hold you in the palms of His hands as you heal over the days ahead. Love you.
