āI highly recommend this funeral home and crematorium; when I had to make and pay for my brotherās arrangements across state lines, Evelyn Montonya, in particular, demonstrated both compassion and professionalism and made a very sad and difficult situation much easier. Many thanks.ā

Obituary of
Tubbs, Lucille K.
Tubbs Captain Lucille K. Rosedale Captain Lucille K. Rosedale Tubbs, USAF (retired), and decorated World War II nurse, passed away on Saturday, June 5, 2010 in Dallas, TX. Burial will be held on Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, CA. After graduating from Pitman High School in Pitman, NJ, Captain Rosedale's journey began as she entered Misericordia Hospital, Philadelphia, PA, and enrolled in a three year nursing program. Following the attack on Pearl Harbor, Captain Rosedale found herself experiencing a strong desire to volunteer and before graduation from Misericordia Hospital, she completed the necessary paperwork to deploy with the U.S. Army Air Corps. Captain Rosedale completed her degree and passed the required Pennsylvania State Board exams. Once the necessary documents were in place, she took the oath of office and reported for duty as a registered nurse to the USAAF Hospital in Atlantic City, NJ. Captain Rosedale volunteered for overseas duty and served in England for the USAFC (United States Strategic Air Force Eastern Command). As an Air Force nurse, she was one of the first American women ever assigned to the Soviet Union. At a shuttle bombing base in the Ukraine, she helped establish and maintain the first Air Force medical units. She was responsible for the treatment of combat troops who were wounded on bombing missions. Captain Rosedale strove for high quality nursing despite very trying conditions including enemy attacks. Captain Rosedale received many awards during her time in the military. She was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious service in Russia. In addition, she was awarded the Russian Commerative Medal I for her courage and personal contribution to the Allied support of Russia. Once a civilian, she began a new career in Occupational Health and was employed by well-known companies such as Keebler and Sears. She married Tom Tubbs in 1957 and they traveled the country with their two children. Tom passed away in 1990 and Captain Rosedale remained in San Diego until 2005 when she moved to Dallas. She is survived by her son, Andrew Tubbs of Dallas, TX, and her daughter, Linda Sutherland of Waukesha, WI, and two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Captain Lucille Rosedale Tubbs lived an extraordinary life and will be greatly missed by her family and friends.
