87 of Dallas, surrounded by family, left peacefully to be with the Lord on January 1, 2009. Born on May 7, 1921 in San Antonio, TX to the late Amado and Manuela Vara. He was a veteran of the US Air Force, a licensed mortician, a hair dresser and a retired carrier with US Postal Service. He became one of the first Hispanic Funeral Directors in Dallas serving the Hispanic community. Another great accomplishment was his ordination among the first Hispanic Deacons in the Catholic Diocese of Dallas. His passion was his love of God, family and friends. Rudy was preceded in death and will be reunited with his wife, Eppie, and son, Joe. He is survived by his children: Gloria Stuart (Ron), Theresa, Jerry, and Anna Vara; grandchildren: Albert Vara, Liz Vara (Willie), Maurice Perez (Betty), Marissa Moreno (Danny), Alison Peters (Chris), Bria Larrea, Michael Todd Martinez, Jayson Vara (Amanda), Monica Martinez, Tito McClung and Brittany McClung; great-grandchildren: Isaiah Davila, Alyssa Moreno, Kylie Conway, Trinity Moreno, Reyna King and Sophia Peters; brother: Henry Vara of San Antonio, TX. Visitation services will be held on Sunday, January 4 between 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m, followed by a rosary at 7:00 p.m. at the North Dallas Funeral Home. A Mass of Celebration will be held on Monday, January 5 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Monica Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Calvary Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Achievement Center of Texas.
