Obituary of Womble, Harold L.

Womble, Harold Lynn, 81, passed Wednesday, October 10, 2012. Harold was born on July 12, 1931 to Lola Brannon and Joe Womble in Healdton, Oklahoma. He graduated from Gladewater High School in 1949. After two years at Texas Tech he enlisted in the Air Force and served for three years during the Korean War. Upon discharge Harold returned to Texas Tech. During a visit to Gladewater he was introduced to Evelyn Crouch, who became his wife in 1956. After he graduated from Tech with a degree in electrical engineering he and Evelyn moved to Farmers Branch where they raised their family of four boys. During his 33 year career at Texas Instruments Harold worked on projects for the military. He enjoyed working on cars, building go carts, using and fixing computers, studying history, and many projects involving power tools. After retirement Harold and Evelyn enjoyed traveling. He spent many hours volunteering in various projects as a Master Gardener. Harold was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Virginia Stracener. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Evelyn; his sons and their wives, David and Jeanette, Ross and Laurie, Glen and Kathryn, and Todd and Melanie; his beloved grandchildren, Alan, Sarah, Elyse, Jacob, and Brandon; brother and his wife, Joe and Dean; sisters Doyce Maywald and Syblene Dye; sister-in-law and her husband, Lou and Tony Poorman; and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive visitors at the home of Melanie and Todd Womble, 2815 Reedcroft in Farmers Branch, on Friday, October 12, 2012 from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at 1:00 PM at Chapel Hill United Methodist Church, 12411 Templeton Trail, Farmers Branch. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Dallas County Master Gardener Association, Joe Field Demonstration Garden, 10056 Marsh Lane, Suite B-101, Dallas, Texas 75229 or Chapel Hill United Methodist Church Endowment Fund, 12411 Templeton Trail, Farmers Branch, Texas 75234. I am so sad to hear about my master gardener friend Harold. He gave me several amaryllis bulbs last year. When they bloom in my garden each year, I will remember what a great, kind and generous man he was. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Evelyn and kids, I am so very sorry to hear of Harold’s passing. I know you are feeling the raw loss right now, but I hope time and fond memories of the good times and the incredible personality, curiosity and dedication that Harold possessed bring more smiles than tears as the days go by. I did not know about Harold’s services until after they were done, so I am sorry I cannot be there in person.

    With sincerest sympathy,
